OER (Open Educational Resources) Commons is a digital public library and collaboration platform for educators, including K-12 and universities. The collection includes complete courses, textbooks, mini-lessons, and simulations, as well as lesson plans, workbooks, collections for Project based and Problem Based Learning, and more. In addition to the content on the site, OER Commons also includes features for building interactive lessons and modules and media documents. Registration isn't required; however, free signup on the website provides you the option to save materials, create and collaborate with groups, and align resources to standards.

Bookmark OER Commons to use as your first stop in lesson planning. Take advantage of the search filters to narrow down the content and grade-level information to suit your needs. This website is also an excellent resource for finding materials to differentiate instruction. Use higher-level activities to challenge gifted students, and search for content to use for remediation. As you gather resources into a collection or lesson plans, be sure to think about ways to incorporate technology in meaningful ways to enhance and extend learning.

Mootion uses AI tools to create video content from your prompts or a completed script. Mootion takes your script of up to 2500 characters and creates a storyboard with images for each paragraph or section of the story. When using a prompt, type in an idea, and Mootion generates a corresponding story. Options include choices of several output languages, style options, and video ratios corresponding to social media options. After adding a prompt or story and making customization choices, click generate to begin the video creation process. You will need to create a free account with Google, Discord, or your email. Each video uses 20 credits; free members receive 200 monthly credits. After generating the video, choose options to regenerate, add assets (your images), animate transitions, or download the video.

Enter a prompt describing your topic, musical style, mood, or desired lyrics, and Suno will generate original songs based on your instructions. Users can create songs with AI-generated lyrics, provide their own lyrics, or generate instrumental music. Within moments, Suno typically creates multiple versions of a song for you to review. After listening, you can extend, remix, edit, or regenerate songs as desired. Be sure to preview any work on this site before sharing with your students. Take advantage of this database for use when looking for contemporary poetry to use in your classroom. Enjoy sharing poetry with students as models for poetry writing and reading or to introduce poets to your students. Be sure to ask students what the poem says about the poet as part of a self identity unit. Once students have written their own poems, ask them what the poem says about their own self identity. Instead of asking students to create a written journal of poetry, replace the written journal and build a poetry portfolio by having them use a bookmarking tool like Wakelet, reviewed here. Use Wakelet to add links to student-created poetry, poems from their favorite poets, audio recordings of their poetry, and videos sharing different structures of poetry. As a final project, ask students to extend learning and classroom technology by creating podcasts discussing and featuring both their work and the work of favorite poets. Start or convert your podcasting to Acast's free account. There are many benefits to a free account, such as unlimited hours of audio and editing; with Acast, there are no limits for storage, uploads, or downloads. In addition, you will have your own podcast website that updates automatically, and, unlike other podcast programs, there are no limits to which podcast app you use, and a bonus to that is a one-click distribution to all podcast listening apps. Another advantage with Acast is that you get a free web player that can be embedded on your website, blog, and social media. On top of all that, you get free analytics that shows episode performance, geography, and more. As if all of this isn't enough, if you use another podcasting program, easily switch over to Acast. Be sure to look at the Acast Essentials Toolkit which is free and will explain all areas of podcast production and it features insights from well-known podcast creators.

In the Classroom
With older students (and strong readers), you may want to pair them up and have them read Aclass Essentials for the basics of podcasting. Using Fiskkit, reviewed here, with this article will enhance student learning. Create regular podcasts to share on your class web page or wiki. Record class assignments or directions. Record story time or a reading excerpt for younger ones to listen to at a computer center AND from home, adding a touch of blended learning to your classroom! Have readers (perhaps older buddies) enhance their learning and build fluency by recording selected passages for your non-readers. Launch a service project for your fifth or sixth graders to record stories for the kindergarten to use in their reading and listening center. Challenge students to create "you are there" recordings as "eyewitnesses" to historical or current events. Make a weekly class podcast, with students taking turns writing and sharing the "Class News," encourage and extend learning and have students create radio advertisements for concepts studied in class (Buy Dynamic DNA!). Invite students to write and record their own stories or poetry in dramatic readings. English language learners or students just beginning to read could record their fluency by reading passages. Allow parents to hear their child's progress reading aloud, etc. Compare world language, speech articulation, or reading fluency at two points during the year. Challenge your Shakespeare students to record a soliloquy. Write and record a poem for Father's or Mother's Day (or other special events) and send the URL as a gift to that special person. If you have gifted students who lean toward the dramatic, this tool is simple enough for them to create dramatic mini-casts without needing any additional tools.Edge Features:

This site states that it is "the world's largest public domain media search engine" and provides access to millions of public domain objects to view and download. Use Picryl to search for specific items such as Abraham Lincoln or Abraham Lincoln's papers. Sort information to view just text, images, or collections. Additional filters allow you to narrow down the time frame to include or select from suggested tags. Picryl also offers over 2,000 collections featuring various topics that range from lighthouses to glassblowing. After choosing an item, use the download link to save it to your device and access information to credit the source. Registration isn't required; however, it provides access to source URL information and allows you to create collections from resources found on Picryl.

After uploading videos, YouTube offers basic editing tools to remove portions of your video, add music, and add end screens. Use the share option to post the link to your video on social media, or obtain the embed code to include on a website or blog. YouTube offers a variety of classroom uses. Create your own YouTube channel to provide instructional videos for your students. Create a playlist of videos that support your teaching and help students learn from different viewpoints. With proper permissions, have students create videos that share their learning and understanding of concepts and post them on your class webpage. Flip learning by having students watch videos at home to provide context before classroom lessons. Use YouTube videos to create an interactive learning experience instead of passive learning by using a site such as Edpuzzle, reviewed here, to modify any video to your lesson. Add questions, clip out unnecessary portions of the video, and add comments and information by recording your voice. Iditarod Teacher on the Trail includes posts for the current Teacher on the Trail detailing their journey from selection through participation in the Iditarod. Posts include classroom lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards on the Iditarod across all subject areas. Choose links to particular parts of the curriculum to view videos, classroom images, download printables, and complete lessons. This site focuses on each new teacher of the year; be sure to see the archives and information from previous years' teachers.
In the Classroom
Bookmark this site as you and your class learn about the Iditarod and follow the Iditarod as it takes place each March. Sign up to receive email notice of the latest blog entries. Take advantage of the many free lesson plans for use in your classroom. Have students create maps using Zeemaps, reviewed here, to follow the journey of the Iditarod. Zeemaps allows students to create audio recordings AND choose various locations on a map where the route takes place. Create a quick poll (with no membership required) using SurveyRock, reviewed here, before the race begins to let students predict the winner of the Iditarod. Have students use Fakebook, reviewed here, to create a "fake" page similar in style to Facebook about the participants in the Iditarod.

Create online charts, maps, and interactive stories from your spreadsheets using Flourish. Modify technology use by uploading any spreadsheet (or copy and paste directly from Excel) to create tables without downloading additional software. After creating your free account follow prompts to design and construct a visualization or animated story. When finished, publish and share using the provided link, download the image to your computer, or use the code to embed into your website or blog. Free accounts include features to share your information publicly.

In the Classroom
Use Flourish to create and share information in many different ways. Ask students to upload information, then create bar graphs, pie charts, and line charts to view the same statistics through different methods. Use the animated story feature to display statistics over time. For example, when students create projects about climate change, ask them to create an animated story that shares facts from different decades with each decade becoming a new point in the story to demonstrate change. Because this site features many different options for sharing data, have different groups of students become experts on how to build and share different types of charts then share their expertise with their peers. Include student work created using Flourish within bigger projects using Zeemaps, reviewed here. Zeemaps allows students to create audio recordings AND choose various locations on a map where the report takes place. In the Classroom
Introduce your students to Kwanzaa by taking the quiz to see how much they know about Kwanzaa. Then in pairs or small groups, have students research the terms. As students research, substitute paper and pen journals by asking younger students to create a blog using a tool like Penzu, reviewed here to share what they are learning with fellow students. A great blogging tool for older students is Telegra.ph, reviewed here. With Telegra.ph have students click on an icon to upload related images, add YouTube or Vimeo links. Find a wealth of resources for using drama in the ENL/ELL classroom. The same activities can also be useful for other subjects. The improvisation resources are especially exciting, offering definitions, examples of activities, links, and visual examples of how you can use improvisational techniques. In addition, information and activities on using plays, process drama, and reader's theater for language teaching abound. Use play writing for another aspect of language teaching. There is a complete curriculum for offering an independent class in drama for ENL/ELL students. Although this site may appear plain vanilla, there are sprinkles throughout, making this tool very valuable and informative.

In the Classroom
Use this site as the starting point for group projects like having the students write and produce their own play(s). This is a great find for gifted students as well as students studying any modern language as the play writing and acting techniques can easily be adapted. Challenge cooperative learning groups to create videos of the plays they write and produce then edit and save them using using CapCut, reviewed here. In the Classroom
This would be an excellent resource for an environmental science class. Add to online course sites as an alternative to textbooks. Create assignments where students are directed to this site to read for understanding of the topics that are being discussed. For students in more advanced environmental studies, the section on Policy and Legislation is great. It is far more understandable than reading through the actual laws and policies. Have students read the website information on a specific policy or law, and then have the students find the actual law to "check up" on the site. This will encourage students to make comparisons between the reading that they could easily understand and the more complicated language of the actual laws. This simple exercise could be incorporated in an English or reading comprehension classroom or a science classroom (what a great way to do a little cross curricular teaching!). Students will learn to read more analytically in the process!
